COURSE DESCRIPTION
"* Most tribal court personnel do not have adequate substantive (written) code provisions relating to criminal procedure. Most early drafted tribal law & order codes neglected to be developed with the full range of procedural protections in a criminal setting.
* Consequently, it is important for both tribal advoctes, prosecutors, judges and clerks to be aware of all the substantive provisions that should be developed to protect criminal defendants and the tribe’s themselves. Today, tribal courts are too often criticized for not providing the full spectrum of procedural safeguards in a criminal setting.
* This course will include reference and instruction on court computer software for the purpose of tracking criminal and civil matters. Finally, there will be an opportunity for all participants to be involved in a mock court jury trial."
